13 Dec HELIX concept wins Gold at Premier SA Packaging Awards
The cork and glass concept that changed the face of the wine industry has been recognised for its striking visual appeal. HELIX revolutionary twist-to-open cork won Gold at the Gold Pack Awards, South Africa’s showcase for packaging excellence organised every two years by the Institute of Packaging SA.
The HELIX ‘twist to open’ cork was launched in South Africa in 2015 by Amorim Cork and producers wishing to offer wine-lovers this modern closure solution initially had to source the wine bottles from O-I glass manufacturers. Early this year Consol, the leading supply of bottles to the South African wine industry and O-I’s technical partners globally, stepped into the equation offering the specially threaded bottles required for the convenient HELIX ‘twist to open’ cork.
Consol entered six products, of which HELIX was the company’s best performer winning the Beverages & Glass categories with a Gold medal.
According to Shane Dean from Consol’s marketing division, the Gold Pack Awards are the pinnacle of packaging design in South Africa, attracting hundreds of entries from around the country in diverse segments. “The competition for Gold Pack is fierce and we could not be more pleased that our products were again acknowledged as superior packaging that exceeds the rigorous quality standards demanded by the industry.”
Joaquim Sá, MD of Amorim SA, says this Gold Pack recognition for HELIX underscores Amorim’s ‘twist-to-open’ cork’s seamless combination of functionality and aesthetical excellence.
“The product has taken the world by storm, offering all the features of cork but enabling consumers to access the bottle contents through an easy twist without requiring a cork-screw,” says Sá. “But HELIX was also designed to portray to be visually appealing, complementing the respecting wine brand using the cork with stylish packaging that adds to its image of class, style and value-adding. We are extremely honoured of this recognition and thank Consol for entering this product as part of their packaging proposal.”
In South Africa, HELIX can be found on the Krone and Protea wine ranges amongst other.
